Summer help Most college classes for the spring semester ended in April and high school students will finish later this month. Let them know you’re looking for summer help, interns or even apprentices.
Vacation Ask employees for their summer vacation requests now, especially if you’ll be bringing on summer help in some capacity.
Facilities management This could be the week to “dress up” your property. Plant flowers or trim shrubs, clean up around the outside of your building and fix any potholes in your driveway or parking lot.
Marketing Review analytics, then keep fine tuning your search engine optimization (SEO), social media and email strategy.
Seasonal Gear up for summer events such as fairs, parades, street markets, etc. Now is also the time to prepare for the hot summer with safety meetings about heat exposure in and out of the shop.
Systems Evaluate all your processes for areas you can streamline or create a more cohesive system: design, estimating, fabrication, installation — everything you do.
Inventory Keep a weather eye on stock levels, as well as supplier prices and availability. Decisions on what, when and how much to buy have rarely been more challenging.
Employees If you haven’t for a while, make a point to meet with all of your employees one on one to make sure everyone is doing well and to see if any issues need to be addressed.
