A digital printer in Calgary is doing damage control after hackers accessed the payment information of its clients, Global News reports.
The article says Little Rock Printing became the target of a “sophisticated” scam as the company was overhauling its ecommerce website.
President Brian Kroeker decided on the overhaul after he was notified about fraudulent credit card activity at the beginning of the year. In the middle of the revamp, the system was infiltrated.
“They (scammers) had placed an order and dropped a PNG file in as an order and it had malware on it,” Kroeker told the outlet. “They went in for a second and they skimmed data for that three-week period that we weren’t offline yet. They did a quick skim and left.”
Kroeker says he didn’t know about the breach until news of it was posted on Reddit. He said a “fire storm” of comments ensued, which he addressed with an apology and an explanation of what the company is doing to secure customers’ payment information.
