At a time when hiring and retaining employees is paramount to the success of sign, graphics and visual communications companies, ensuring that salaries are on par can be a key differentiator. The “2021 Wage & Benefits Report for the Sign, Graphics and Visual communications Industry,” released by the International Sign Association, provides that competitive insight.
The survey, compiled by Association Research Inc. for ISA, provides details on more than sixty job functions, ranging from CEO to intern. Findings are by company type (i.e., local sign company) and region, allowing for true comparison. It also includes distinctions for hourly employees, sales personnel and the impact of COVID-19 on wages and staffing.
Among the highlights:
- The average hourly employee working in the industry can expect a 7.3 percent increase in wages in 2022, higher than that expected by management and operations. All job types can expect a slightly higher raise in 2022 than in 2021, however.
- Almost 6 in 10 companies surveyed said they expected to hire in the second half of 2021, adding an average of 2.7 employees. More than two-thirds expected to hire in the first half of 2022, adding 2.5 employees.
- Paid holidays, paid vacations and a casual dress code were the most frequently cited benefits among all job types.
- In all, nearly 700 companies across the U.S. and Canada provided data to ARI for the report.
“Participating in a survey like this takes a significant amount of time, and ISA is grateful for the great response from companies,” said Lori Anderson, ISA president and CEO. “This insight will be beneficial in helping companies meet the challenge of hiring new workers and keeping existing workers at a time when unemployment rates across all industries are so low.”
The full report is available for $300 for ISA members and $600 for non-members. An executive summary also is available, providing a high-level overview of the results. The cost for the executive summary is $100 for ISA members and $300 for non-members.
