Two Signshops Recreate “Casablanca” Sign for Museum

Commissioned by a local museum, two New York signshops have unveiled their recreation of the “Rick’s Café Americain” sign from the 1942 film Casablanca, WIBX 950 writes.

Just Neon (Utica, NY) worked with the Historic Sign Restoration Company (Rochester, NY) to craft the sign for the George Eastman Museum using photos and clips from the American classic.

Howard Cohen, owner of Just Neon, told the radio station he has seen a “strong resurgence” in neon. His custom-made signs have made appearances on major TV network shows including NBC’s The Today Show, American Restoration and Deal or No Deal.

Regular Signs of the Times readers might recall the “Rick’s Café Americain” sign was included in a recent gallery featuring 14 famous signs from the silver screen.
